Getting Creative with Kreinik Iron-On Thread

Check this out!  Here is something a little different, Iron-On Thread by Kreinik.

You can’t sew with it, but you sure can embellish with it.  This thread is an awesome option for a “fusible, no-glitter, no-mess embellishment”.   You can use it on fabric, paper and card stock so it it is extremely versatile and the uses are endless.  Think sewing, scrapbooking, card-making, quilting, etc.

It comes in a variety of colors either sold separately or in assortment packs.

I used it to make this personalized pillow.  It added some nice sparkle and flair.

It was quite easy to use too.  The directions that come with the recommend using a craft iron and placing the on your drawn design as you go using a teflon press cloth to prevent the thread from sticking to the iron.   I applied this a bit differently since I didn’t have a craft iron, nor did I have a teflon press cloth.  Here is what I did:

  • I appliqued the letter “N” onto the fabric.
  • Using some temporary adhesive, I stuck the iron-on thread around the letter working with 4-5″ of thread at a time.
  • I used some kitchen parchment paper in place of the teflon press cloth and it worked like a charm.
  • I used my regular iron on a cotton setting (without steam) to adhere the thread to the fabric.

This was super easy and fun.  If you are looking for a n0-sew way to embellish your projects this is absolutely worth giving a try.
